A well maintained bathroom requires regular cleaning but even with weekly cleaning mould and mildew may still appear. Bathrooms usually are places with a lot of moisture because of the water used in showers, tubs and sinks, which makes them a breeding ground for black mould. The black mould affects mainly the grout in between tiles, but it can spread on the bathroom tiles as well if not treated on time.
Removing dark stains from your bathroom tiles can be tough if the stains are set in deeply, but using the right cleaning products and techniques can overcome most stains without relying on professional cleaning services.
Start with simple cleaning using a sponge and water to wash the stained tiles. This will remove any dirt or soap scum that could be in your way of cleaning the dark stain. Use paper towels to dry the area and then apply a commercial bathroom cleaner to the stained area. Rub the solution into the tile using a stiff bristled brush but be careful not to scratch the tiles. Let the cleaner sit on the tile for about 10 minutes and then scrub again with your brush. Wipe away the cleaner with damp cloth and spray the area with diluted bleach. Wash away the bleach with water after it has sit on the tile for about 15 minutes. Finally, use paper towels to dry the bathroom tiles.
Keep in mind that mould can become very difficult to remove even with bleach and cleaners designed for mould if you don't address the problem for long time. If a particular stain doesn't come out from the first attempt, try again until it is completely removed. However, some stains require professional intervention to be removed, so consider using professional cleaning services when stuck on such stains.
