How to Make a Homemade Carpet Freshener

Using your own freshener is a non-toxic way to get rid of unpleasant odors which source might be your carpet or furniture. Often, making a homemade cleaner is much cheaper than buying a commercial one, and it is not difficult to be used. Sprinkle the substance on the carpet, leave it for 30 minutes, then vacuuming it up and you will have a fresh carpet again.

Instructions
  1. Get a plastic container with a lid and wash it. An empty container of Parmesan cheese can be perfect as the holes in the container will allow you to sprinkle the freshener easily. Make sure the container is completely dry, then go on the next step.
  2. Pour 1 cup of baking soda into the plastic container. Add fine-chopped dried rosemary and lavender buds, 1 cup each. The baking soda will help get rid of odors, and the rosemary and lavender will leave a fresh, clean scent in your home, according to carpet cleaning professionals. You can purchase baking soda from any grocery or discount store.
  3. Add no more than 10 drops of an essential oil by your choice to the mixture. You can make a combination of several oils, but make sure the total amount of drops to be approximately 10. Vanilla, cinnamon, citrus, apple are all great choices for a carpet freshener.
  4. Place the lid on top of the container and shake it thoroughly to mix the ingredients. Leave the mixture for 2 days on a dry place to let it absorb the essential oils, otherwise it may stain your carpet and you may need professional carpet cleaning services to get rid of the stain.
