Kitchen Flooring – Available Options Part 2

If you've missed part 1 you can check out here.
There are also other alternative options to mainstream kitchen flooring solutions like wood and tile.
The main idea of the kitchen floor is to be durable, easy to clean and maintain and to provide a certain level of comfort and warmth, though tiles are far from keeping things warm, they do provide a high level of durability and ease of maintenance. Wood is always good but it is expensive and some species require extra maintenance and care in order to keep them looking good and functional for longer. Some of the less known kitchen flooring options include vinyl and cork.

A few words about vinyl first, the material used to be a quite undesirable and was considered a cheap and tacky alternative to other flooring options. This was then, vinyl today is a hi-tech affair. Many manufacturers have paid some serious attention to improving production techniques and developing better, longer lasting, better behaving vinyls at a lower cost. And they seem to have hit the spot with many homemakers looking for a budget-minded alternative to other flooring options. Vinyl can be purchased in two forms – one being a large roll of vinyl which is then cut down to size and fitted to the kitchen in question. The other is option is known as vinyl flooring installation, this means the vinyl has been cut down to a the size of a tile, which is then attached to the floor using a special adhesive. Both options are good and workable, but fitting a vinyl sheet on the kitchen floor is not the easiest of things and you may want to call a couple of mates to give you a hand.

Vinyl tiles flooring on the other hand is more manageable and easier to work with, it also gives you a wider choice of patterns and layouts as the tiles can be placed and arranged in many different ways, whereas the vinyl sheet will only display the set pattern printed on top of it.  Linoleum is  another floor cover making a serious comeback due to its environmentally friendly production and low cost.
