How to Clean Tarnished Silverware

Do you have silver jewellery or silverware that is tarnished and this is the only reason you don't use it? Take your silver out of boxes and cabinets, because you can restore its shine simply and quickly following these steps.

Step 1: Wash off your silverware to remove dust and dirt so that you'll have an idea how tarnished your silver really is. Use a plastic bowl or tub to wash the silver to avoid any scratches, especially if your sink is metal . Make sure that you use a phosphate-free cleaning London detergent when washing your silver and dry immediately to avoid any water spots. Step 2: Get a pot, fill most of the way with water and put on the stove. Place a sheet of aluminum foil in the pot and add 1 tablespoon of both baking soda and salt. Bring water to boil.

Step 3: Once the water has boiled, you can put your silverware into the water for 2-3 minutes. Baking soda and salt will loose the dirt from your silver jewellery and aluminum foil will attract it almost magically. You'll be able to see the final result and undoubtedly you'll be amazed that these simple ingredients can make such a wonderful job.

  • If you're used to store your silverware in a cabinet, place a couple of pieces of chalk inside to absorb the moisture and prevent tarnishing.
